Cyber Security Threats to Home Workers

September 04, 2020

Cyber criminals are using COVID-19 to target employees working at home. According to a Cyber Security Intelligence post, attacks targeting home workers increased from 12% of malicious email traffic in March to 60% six weeks later. The attackers try to prey on coronavirus related anxieties to lure their victims.

Phishing attacks are increasingly related to COVID-19.  Avoid unexpected emails, especially with links to purported COVID-19 websites.

Cloud-intelligence technology is advancing, and hackers are exploiting it. A particular threat is "deepfake" voice technology, mimicking a real person's voice to request money.(Verify any such requests using a known phone number or email address.)

The computer user is the weak link in cyber security. Train employees to recognize threats and report them.
