Gard, a marine company, posted an article on their website (https://www.gard.no/articles/cyberattacks-on-the-rise-key-recommendations/) with recommendations for how to handle increased cyberattacks. They train their staff to be "STARS":
- Stop: resist acting on impulse if an email, phone call, etc. asks you to do something urgent (e.g. transfer money), unusual, or tries to manipulate your emotions.
- Think: before clicking (or responding to a message) ask if this is expected and from a known source.
- Ask: when in doubt, ask a colleague or security for their opinion. (If you're not sure a message is genuine, ask the alleged source for confirmation.)
- React: notify security or a manager of anything suspicious. (If you've successfully avoided a threat, share your experience. If you've been tricked, let others know so they can avoid a similar experience.)
This is good advice for any business. Let's all be STARS.
