When reading posts about cybersecurity, they usually dwell on new and increasing threats, mounting dollar value of losses and similar topics. In a departure from the "doom and gloom" approach, Vishal Gupta, CEO of Seclore, writes on VMblog.com (https://vmblog.com/archive/2024/01/12/seclore-2024-predictions-the-next-generation-of-security-will-be-data-centric.aspx) about a "new era" in cybersecurity putting enterprises on offense and making them safer. His predictions:
- Instead of building security around networks or devices, security will be data-centric. Controls will follow data wherever it is stored or shared. This will give enterprises total control and visibility.
- The United States will move from piecemeal data regulation by states to federal data privacy regulation. The increasing use of artificial intelligence will force legislators to act.
- The manufacturing industry has been a target for cyber attacks due to its complexity and lack of security. Semiconductor manufacturers are a special target. As the United States increases chip-making domestically instead of imports from China, manufacturers will pioneer new cybersecurity measures and extend them to their vendors, sub-contractors and business partners.
